CRL embark on a challenging new project …

CRL have recently been awarded their first major project in Area 10 works for Highways England, refurbishing, strengthening and improving the Whitley Lane and Gore Farm Bridges over the M6 motorway between Junctions 19 and 20. The scheme remit is to carry out repairs and strengthening to both the Northbound and Southbound verge piers of both bridges.

CRL has been employed as the Principal Contractor on this £4 million project and tasked with completing the works within the shortest programme duration, and with as little disruption to road users and other stakeholders as possible.

The main works involve converting the existing piers, damaged through water ingress and carbonation, into leaf piers with full height encapsulation and corrosion control. We will also be installing new approach and departure Vehicle Restraint System (VRS) in front of all four structures on both the North and Southbound carriageways. Other works include widespread concrete repairs, installation of 2 types of galvanic CP systems, installation of additional reinforcement to the piers and increasing the concrete footprint of each structure.

As the Principal Contractor, CRL will work with both the clients’ novated subcontractors, as well as our own appointed subcontractors to deliver this scheme.

Works at the 4 number satellite sites will also involve the installation of the infrastructure by our subcontractors to access the bridge piers, provide sheet piled lay down areas and coffer dams, access scaffolds and traffic management to protect the workforce while works proceed.
